Jesus is Our Only Rescue

He rescued me because He delighted in me.

Psalm 18:19

Our God is a God of rescue. A God of salvation. A God of redemption. That’s what He does. He saves individuals. He saves families. He saves us from ourselves. The entire gospel message is about rescue. Mankind, born into a sinful state, has no way of rescue by ourselves. The sins are too deep. Next to a perfect God, we can never measure up. When the first sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s deception, there was no way to fix it by man’s works. The perfect relationship between God and Man was torn apart. No mere man could pay this penalty. The sentence was death.

But God had a plan of rescue. And that plan was in the person of Jesus Christ. He was fully God and fully man. Only as man could He experience what we experience daily. Only as God could He pay the penalty for all the sins of all mankind for all time. And they were paid. Nailed to the cross. Every single one. Jesus Christ paved the way for our rescue when He died on the cross. We did nothing to earn it. That is why salvation is called a gift.

The gift was wrapped when Christ rose from the dead. It is sitting right in front of every person who has ever lived. Who will reach out by faith and accept it? Who will believe that this free gift of God will indeed be THE RESCUE, the One the Old Testament prophets had spoken about for centuries? The One the New Testament confirms again and again through the individuals who experienced it. Peter. John. Paul. James. The list goes on. Each of them walked having received the gift of Jesus. Each one wrote to tell us how to live in Christ.

Your heavenly Father delights in you. That’s why He sent His Son Jesus to die for you. He wants you to be restored to Him. His gift is available to you today. Will you reach out and take out?
