In Trials, We Need the Lord’s Peace

May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

-2 Thessalonians 3:16

In times of trial, fear, and uncertainty, what we really need is the peace of the Lord to carry us through it. I’ve come to realize and to accept trials will come no matter what, and there’s not much I can do about it. Jesus said, “You will have suffering in this world.” He didn’t say you might have suffering, He said you will have suffering. But what were His words right before these? “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace.” In trials, what we need most is the Lord’s peace. We need Him to speak truth over our situations so that we are looking straight at Him and His power over all things, instead of looking at the trial itself and feeling fear.

He also said one more thing in this one verse in John 16. He said, “Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” Because of His great power and strength, He can turn any trial around and use it for His glory (Romans 8:28). When we are in the midst of the trial, we can already begin to thank Him for the glory to His name that will come from it. We can ask Him to give us His peace and His patience to see His glory, for Beloved, it will come each and every time we have a trial. We need to ask for eyes to see it.

John 16:33 tells us we will have suffering, but we can have the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ through it, and we can see His glory because of it. These are great and precious gifts through difficult circumstances in life. We wish it didn’t have to happen in this way, but this is God’s economy, and He has His reasons. We must place our trust in Him. We won’t be disappointed when it is all said and done. Jesus will have the victory over every trial and heartache we face. He has conquered the world.
