Day After Day He Bears Our Burdens

May the Lord be praised!
Day after day He bears our burdens;
God is our salvation.

-Psalm 68:19

We carry heavy loads upon our shoulders, don’t we? Even when we manage to finally place them down, like we’ve finally gotten over a trial, something else comes along to replace the space the old ones once occupied. Our trials are seemingly unending.

Thankfully, when we look into God’s Word, we see the truths which help us to endure the trials and unexpected events which can blindside us. We see our Savior Jesus, who carried the burdens for us, both physically and spiritually, at His work on the cross. And amazingly, we see the Father at the side of His Son, even in His moment of suffering, bringing someone else beside Him to carry His burden too.

As they led Him away, they seized Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.” (Luke 23:26)

Trials will come–disappointments will come. If they did not escape the Son of Man, how can we expect them to escape us? The real message is this: We are never left alone to carry our burdens. God will carry them alongside us. He is with us through every moment, every heartbreak, every disappointment, and every tear. No matter what you are going through today, you are not alone.

Cling fiercely to God through this trial, even if you don’t feel like it, and even if you feel like He’s abandoned you. He will never abandon you. What you are going through is about your faith–it is being tested, purified, and refined in the furnace of affliction. None of what you are going through today is a surprise to God. He already saw this day, and He’s already provided you with the grace you need to come through it. Cling to God through His Word and never give up hope. God is with you. Trust He will carry you through, and your faith will emerge as pure gold.

You are being protected by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. You rejoice in this, though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials so that the genuineness of your faith—more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

-1 Peter 1:5-7

Yet He knows the way I have taken;
when He has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold.

-Job 23:10
