God’s Gentle Voice

When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they recognize his voice.

John 10:4

I am going to make mistakes. I am going to make many mistakes. Even in Christ, even in submission to His rule in my life, I’m going to mess up. Again and again. I’m not here to reach perfection on my own by doing. If I live this way, I will beat myself up every single time I mess up. I will say to myself, How come you didn’t obey God there? You know what the Bible says about that! Why do you keep doing it if you know not to?

This is not the voice of God. These are the lies of Satan. I know you hear just what I mean. We’ve all heard that voice. And we cannot mistake that voice for the voice of God.

God loves us. His grace is overflowing. His voice is still, soft, gentle and patient. He does not shout, berate, condemn, or intimidate His children. He gently leads us and instructs us in the truth. He takes our face in His hands and whispers softly, I delight in you, My precious child. You are so beautiful to Me.

I pray with all my heart that you and I receive this truth today. We need to understand the depth of God’s love for us. We need to receive the riches of His grace and the never-ending nature of His forgiveness. His love covers over a multitude of sins. Let’s stop beating ourselves up over a voice who lies. Instead, let’s start receiving the voice of Truth.

There is a beautiful song by Casting Crowns called “Voice of Truth.” You can see a video of the song by visiting YouTube. (Please forgive the advertisement at the beginning of the video.)
