Resolve Not to Worry

Happy New Year, friends! It is my prayer that 2017 fills you with the hope, expectation, and overwhelming love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many blessings as we travel down this road together through these devotionals. Much love, Courtney

Be still, and know that I am God! -Psalm 46:10 NLT

God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble. -Psalm 46:1 NLT

Worry is like a parasite. It gets into our minds and consumes us. It leaves us feeling anxious, nervous, and unsettled. It steals our peace and our joy in the Lord. It is not how Jesus wants us to live. It was never His plan to have us worry about our lives.

Prayer is the antidote to worry. Instead of focusing our minds on what is on earth, we need to set our minds on what is in heaven, where Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. When we get our minds off our problems and focus on the Lord instead, the problems of our day dissipate in the presence and power of Jesus Christ. Compared to Him, they are nothing.

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” (Col. 3:1-4 NIV).

Resolve not to worry. When the parasite of worry begins to creep in, immediately cry out to God for help, and He will rescue you. You may need to do this twenty times a day. But keep it up. Overtime, you will notice the warning signs more quickly, and you will develop the good habit of setting your mind on Christ instead of on your worries. And you will have peace!
