Standing Firm in Christ

This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

-1 John 5:4b-5

In the middle of our struggles we oftentimes forget what the true victory looks like. It is this: standing firm in Christ. When the enemy, the world, and/or our flesh keep pushing us hard to make us fall, we remain victorious when we simply stand firm in Jesus. See, the victory is already won. It was won at the cross when Jesus sacrificed Himself for our sins and rose from the dead three days later. It was won when we personally received Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and Savior. At that point, we were sealed by His Spirit and by His power. The enemy can truly do nothing to us. He certainly tries, and he certainly makes us think he’s succeeding in knocking us down, but the truth is that we are already victorious in Christ because of our faith. We are already conquerors because we believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Was this a challenging week for you? If so, than me too. I needed to be reminded that when I was being pushed and prodded from every direction that my victory lied in standing firm. It goes back to the message of God’s grace–He keeps us in Him even when we cannot keep ourselves. He holds onto us when we keep slipping. He will not let us go, no matter what. We can praise God for that today.

Know you are victorious, Dear Friend, in simply standing firm. This battle will pass and there will be a reprieve before a new one comes. Just keep standing firm in Him one moment at a time. Find your peace in Him holding onto you. He is right there with you through it all, and He will never let you go no matter what. Hallelujah!
