Waiting On God

From 90 Devotions to Encourage Your Heart:

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.

Psalm 37:7 (NIV84)

God truly has the very best prepared for us. Often times, we have to wait patiently in order to receive it. The waiting and trusting is the hardest part. In our flesh, we want it right now. We live in a time where it grows increasingly more difficult to be patient. As the world around us moves at a faster and faster rate, we grow accustomed to receiving things quickly. Drive-thru restaurants, instant communication through smart phones, and relatively quick means of travel relay the message that we can get what we want right now.

I often think of Jesus and the times in which He lived. He couldn’t get into a car to travel around Israel. He had to walk. He couldn’t send a text message to His disciples. If they were separated, He had to wait until they were face-t0-face again to communicate. He experienced many desires in His heart just like we do, but had to wait patiently for the Father to give them to Him at the right time. He lived on earth just as we have to live today–in trust and obedience to the heavenly Father.

God’s timing is rarely our timing. As the Author of Time, He has a perfect plan for each of us. You may be struggling right now because you have to wait on the Lord. Don’t get discouraged. God gently says, Be still, my child. I’ve got it all worked out. Trust God. Place that situation, that relationship, that circumstance, in God’s perfect hand. He is faithful to not only give you the patience you need, but to provide for you at the perfect time and in His perfect way.
