Dear Friends, As we close out the summer and I begin preparing for the fall, new devotions will begin again on September 9th. I hope you enjoy the selections from my book 90 Devotions to Encourage Your Heart. Have a blessed rest of the summer!

This is My beloved Son.
I take delight in Him.
Listen to Him!

Matthew 17:5

When Jesus was transformed to reveal His glory in front of Peter, James, and John on what is known as the Mount of Transfiguration, God called out these words from a bright cloud: “This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him. Listen to Him!” At that moment, God the Father is conveying the most important message we need to hear. He loves His Son. He delights in His Son. His Son is everything. Listen to Him!

The word “listen” in Greek is akouō. It means to give audience; to attend to; to understand; to comprehend; to give ear to a teaching or teacher. It involves intentionality not passivity. It is a primary verb.

Jesus said many important things we need to hear. But are we listening? When the Son of God speaks to you, do not take it lightly. Do not let it go into one ear and out the other. That is not listening. That is ignoring.

Jesus speaks in many ways. He speaks through the circumstances of your life. He speaks through others sent to you by Him. He speaks through His Word. He is always speaking to you. Are we listening?

Listen to Him! Let’s make a point to truly listen today.

Dear Jesus, Help me to understand what you are saying to me today. Help me to listen to you. Amen.
