God Will Accomplish It

…for I watch over My word to accomplish it.

-Jeremiah 1:12b

I know I have a lot going on in this season of my life. It’s summer, my children are home from school, and I’m writing a new Bible study. And I know myself–when my to-do list grows longer and longer by the day, I start to stress. I begin to wonder if I’ll be able to accomplish it all in the timelines that are set, and I worry.

I freely acknowledge my worry for what it is–sin. After all, how many times has Jesus been faithful to see me through in the past? I think back to my seminary days when I had two babies and I was able to complete my degree. How did I ever accomplish that? The answer is, I didn’t. Jesus did it through me.

If this season of my life is from the Lord, and it is, and this work of mine is His, not mine, then why do I worry? He will see it through, just like He did the countless other times in the past. This is the truth–I’m stretched beyond myself, for a reason. It’s because it is not about me accomplishing this on my own strength, it’s to show that Jesus is the only One who could have done it.

Our human nature does not like to be in this position. We don’t like feeling out of control. However, when we surrender to His love, His grace, and trust in Him one moment at a time, we can accomplish the work. And we can accomplish it in peace, knowing He is with us the entire time.

Remember the apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:10? He says, “So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” He took pleasure in the difficulties because of Christ, for he knew that when the circumstances were way over his head, Jesus would be the most powerful through him.

I pray that for you and for me today. Whatever you are facing, whatever is beyond your capabilities, know that Jesus is powerful through you. Keep trusting Him. Keep walking in step with Him. He’s carrying you, and He’s carrying me. Let’s thank Him today for His faithfulness. He will see us through.
