They will tremble with awe because of all the good and all the peace I will bring about for them.

Jeremiah 33:9

God is good. Even if our circumstances and feelings say otherwise, God is good. Though we may be traveling through a storm right now, we can trust God has a greater purpose for it, because God is good.

How do we practically face life when we are led to believe otherwise? If God is good, why is this happening to me? A great word picture God has given us to understand this is the relationship between parents and children. Picture this example: My child is about to run into the street as a car is coming. I grab my child’s arm tightly and protectively to stop her from going into the street. My child looks at me with some anger and frustration and says, “Mommy, that hurt my arm. Why did you do that?” She could only focus on the pain in her arm. She couldn’t see the car coming. But I could. And I knew the consequences of the situation if I let my child move forward in the path she was heading.

God uses a host of different things to get our attention. Pain is one of them. I have learned the most about God when I’m going through pain. I have learned to seek Him through pain and have seen Him bring amazing things out of pain. I have learned to trust that the Bible is not a book of ancient writings that have no significance in my life today. I have learned that God does exactly what He says He’s going to do in the Bible, and He acts exactly the same way in my life as He’s acted toward the people in the Bible.

Just because I haven’t seen good come out of a painful situation doesn’t mean I won’t. God is good. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I can know that one day, I will tremble with awe because of all the good and all the peace God will bring about for me. I praise Him today for that.
