The Weary World Rejoices

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

-Matthew 1:21 (ESV)

Are you weary? If you are, this message is for you. It’s an exhausting world to live in today. Sometimes we’ve already worn ourselves down before noon even arrives. But thankfully, there’s hope, and He entered the world wrapped in cloth one starry night in Bethlehem.

What causes weariness? In a nutshell, it’s sin. It’s our sin, it’s the sin of others, it’s the sin of living in a fallen world and a fallen system. Everything short of perfection–which is Jesus Christ–will wear us out. We were not created for sin. We were created for perfection. But when sin entered the world, so did weariness. When sin became a part of our imputed nature, we became trapped by it. But in Jesus, we can be saved from our sins. In fact, that’s exactly why He came.

We can overcome the sin by remaining in Jesus. And when we feel weary, we need to realize we are empty and need to be re-filled by Jesus’ love to make it through the rest of the day. It’s called grace, and it’s never ending. It flows like a river wide and long and deep. Our weariness is a call to dive deep into the river of Jesus’ grace for the moment. It is only in Him where we will be refreshed and restored to carry on.

One day, and maybe one day soon, we will no longer need to be refreshed by grace, because we will be face-to-face with Grace Himself. We will completely leave this fallen world and this fallen flesh, putting on the righteous, perfect bodies we were always meant to have. One day we will no longer be weary again.

I hope you will be there too on that day. If you have made the decision to turn from your sin and realize that Jesus took all your sins to the cross, believing and receiving Him as your Lord and Savior, you will be there too. But if not, you have a chance today. Your weariness may be a sign you’ve never surrendered your life to Christ. Why not have a conversation with Him now about it? He came to save you from weariness–from your sins. And He did it because He loves you. I hope and pray you will receive His free gift of forgiveness by grace today, and be set free from your weariness for all eternity.

Father God, I thank you for sending your Son Jesus into the world. The weary world rejoiced the moment Mary gave birth to your Beloved Son, and the weary world continues to rejoice as He keeps calling us to Himself. I pray that each person reading today has surrendered his/her life to you. And if not, would you please let him/her know the depth of your love for them? I praise you, Father, for your love and grace poured out at the cross of Jesus Christ. I thank you for the hope we have in Him for all eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
