Think About These Things

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

-Philippians 4:8 (ESV emphasis added)

There are certainly many negative things we can think about on a daily basis. It’s very easy to succumb to the fallen world we live in. After all, we are surrounded by a world of evil, lies, deception, and doubt. But we don’t have to live defeated by these thoughts. We have the power of Christ to overcome. We have the mind of Christ.

The apostle Paul tells us to think about these things–whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise. These are what we are to dwell on. In short, we are to dwell on Scripture. We are to dwell on what the Bible tells us is true. We are to dwell on the love of Christ proclaimed to us through His word.

Take a quick assessment of your thoughts–what do you spend the most time thinking about? Your answer will reveal your outlook and attitude. If you are thinking about Jesus, you will feel peace. If you are worrying over the things of the world, you will feel anxious.

The good news is you can change the way you think by spending more time in God’s word. It has the power to change you. Spend time reading, listening to, and meditating on Bible verses that bring you comfort. Do as the apostle Paul did–think about these things. And you will feel God’s peace.
