What Affliction Does for Us In Eternity

For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

-2 Corinthians 4:17-18

I woke up recently with an affliction that I did not expect. In pain and feeling downcast, I got on my knees and began to pray. Right away, the Holy Spirit led me to thank God for the truth above in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. I praised the Lord that this affliction was momentary and light, and was working something in me that I could not see, but will in eternity. I praised God that He is good and that He is faithful. I praised Him that His love never fails no matter what I experience here on earth. I praised Him that He is always with me no matter what I go through. I praised Him for eternity and my home in heaven, which will be forever.

My affliction did not go away, but my fear faded and peace reigned in my heart. When God chooses to remove this is up to Him. But I know I can walk through it with strength, hope, and peace, that this situation is indeed momentary and will not last forever. He will last forever–His love will last forever. But as a follower of Christ, my time on earth will be temporary until I am called to be with Him.

So I do not focus on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, and what is unseen is eternal. Praise be to God! I love Him so.
