The Lord Displays His Glory Through the Church

May 27, 2014 | Tags: ,

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the perception of your mind may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.

-Ephesians 1:17-19

The church, that is, the collection of redeemed believers, both deceased and alive, from Pentecost until the rapture, represent the grandest display of the glory of God. It is God’s will to pour out His wisdom, knowledge, and power into the church in order for the world to see His great kindness and love. This is the truth of God’s will, and it plays out through you and me as we live today.

It is easy for us to get lost in the “here and now” of the world we are living in. We can easily forget the bigger picture of eternity if we don’t purposefully and intentionally “keep our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). We are to continually renew our minds by reading God’s Word, asking for the Holy Spirit to continually pour out additional understanding to build up our faith and increase our love for God. Thankfully, we can never exhaust God’s infinite love and knowledge, which is why we can ask God for a deeper understanding of Scripture. And He longs to give it to us when we ask Him.

Put away your cares of the temporary situation you are in and sit down with God in His Word. Get into the habit of doing this before beginning your day. You will begin to see the world in different ways, which then make it easier to keep your perspective on what’s eternal instead of what will pass away in time. You will have peace and joy knowing God has a bigger plan for you than what you can see now. And it is an awesome plan, my friend, one so good you can’t even imagine it.
