Thank Him–He’s Already Done It

Jesus told him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

-John 4:48

We spend a lot of time worrying, don’t we? We fret and doubt, worry and beg Jesus to help us. We want to see signs and wonders, and then say, “Yes, I believe!” But what does Jesus want? He wants us to thank Him. He wants us to trust Him. He wants us to believe He is the Great I AM who never changes. Signs and wonders or not, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And His perfect will has already been accomplished here on earth.

Let’s take a look at this together in John 4:46-53 with the healing of the official’s son.

46 Then He went again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. There was a certain royal official whose son was ill at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and pleaded with Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.

48 Jesus told him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

49 “Sir,” the official said to Him, “come down before my boy dies!”

50 “Go,” Jesus told him, “your son will live.” The man believed what Jesus said to him and departed.

51 While he was still going down, his slaves met him saying that his boy was alive. 52 He asked them at what time he got better. “Yesterday at seven in the morning the fever left him,” they answered. 53 The father realized this was the very hour at which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” Then he himself believed, along with his whole household.

The father had heard of Jesus and maybe even heard of His miracle of turning the water into wine–a sure sign and wonder. Perhaps as he was traveling to see Jesus, he was thinking Jesus needed to do a huge display in order to heal his son. He was fretting and worrying, maybe even picturing in his mind the kind of display of healing needed in order for his son to live. But Jesus didn’t need signs and wonders to display His power. He didn’t even need to be in the room to heal His son! I get the impression Jesus was going to heal the son no matter what. It was His will. And His will can never be thwarted.

The father found out the healing had occurred the exact hour Jesus said it would. Then the father received not only the life of his son back, but salvation for him and his entire family. Yes, God’s will was going to be accomplished no matter what.

Are you and I looking for signs and wonders to believe Jesus? Are we going to fret and worry all the way to the end, when no matter what, Jesus will accomplish His perfect will? The end has nothing to do with you and me–Jesus will accomplish all He decrees, we can be sure of that. So, what’s a better way for us to react to the fiery darts of the enemy that surround us? I believe we thank Him. We stop fretting and wondering, and we simply thank Him. His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. And no power of darkness will ever triumph in the end.

Let’s be children of faith and not fret. Let’s believe with what little mustard seed of faith we have that He is indeed the Great I AM. And let’s thank Him. It’s already been accomplished. And the victory is beautiful.
