The Harvest is Abundant But the Workers Are Few

He told them: “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.

-Luke 10:2

There are many out there longing for someone to tell them about Jesus, though they may not understand the need for Jesus per se. There are many out there longing for something more, knowing there is something missing. There is an emptiness in their worldview they cannot get past. They think, “There has to be something more than this.”

The answer, of course, is the gospel message. Jesus tells us in this passage in Luke to begin our outreach by praying. We are to pray that God would send out workers into the mission fields around the world to share the gospel with those longing for something more. The mission fields are large and the workers are few. Therefore, we are to begin by coming together as a body of believers to pray. When we pray, God will do the work.

Thankfully, we have many missionaries who have gone before us. We have many missionaries that are there right now. We need to be praying for them too. And we need to pray that God would add to their number.

God works when we pray. Never believe for a moment that your prayers are not doing something. They are doing everything to move heaven to bring God’s will to earth. Keep praying and asking God for workers. Be that worker yourself wherever God has placed you. Let’s allow all our hearts to be open to God using us in the world. Who knows what God will do? We may not know, but we can be assured of one thing–it will be glorious to watch Him work.
