Still Before God

He will bring you quietness with His love.

-Zephaniah 3:17

We are a people who like to accomplish things by doing. We like To-Do lists. We like to check off boxes. We feel a sense of purpose when we see our list fill with check marks. We often think being still in prayer and quietness before God isn’t accomplishing much. But we need to realize that it’s accomplishing more than we can imagine. When we are quiet and still before God, He is working in us. He is working in our hearts and minds to grow us to be more like Him. We cannot underestimate the importance of our stillness before a Holy God. We need this time every single day before we get up and begin to rush around, checking off our To-Do list.

It is easy to get up and start doing. It is harder to get up and be still. But we must try to cultivate the habit and not allow the list for this day to overtake us so that we forget to begin in stillness. It’s a wrestling match with ourselves we must face each day we wake up. But with God’s help, we can begin in stillness and quietness before Him. And in those moments, He will fill us with His love. We desperately need this filling so that we can pour it out to others throughout the day. We get filled with Him, then we pour out to help others in their time of need. Without this daily filling, we begin our day empty. And who can love and serve others when empty?

Take a look at your daily routine. Where can you stop and be still before God? I believe having a daily routine at the same time each day helps to make this a good habit. When you do this, I know it will change so much in your life. It has for me. I experience the presence of God and the fullness of His love each morning. I am now at a place where I don’t do as well throughout the day if I miss it.

I pray if you have this daily time, you continue to grow closer to Him in it. I pray if you do not yet that God helps you to begin one. You will be so thankful each and every day you begin still before God.
