Even When We Don’t Feel It, God is With Us

Happy are the people who know the joyful shout;
Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence.
They rejoice in Your name all day long,
and they are exalted by Your righteousness.
For You are their magnificent strength;
by Your favor our horn is exalted.

-Psalm 89:15-17

There are wonderful moments in our walk with Christ where we feel His presence so tangibly surrounding us. Oh how it could always be that way while we’re here on earth! But for reasons beyond our understanding, the Lord also allows His presence to feel distant at times too. I believe He does this to build our faith and trust in Him. He wants us to see the measure of our faith when the feelings are not there. Do you still trust that I am with you?

It can be a roller-coaster of feelings and emotions at times with the Lord. Why do I feel You so closely and hear You speaking to me so clearly one day, and the next day it’s like You left me? The Lord wants to build an unshakable faith in us, not because of what we are feeling, but because of who He is constantly. Feelings can betray us at times. He wants us to live by the truth and not necessarily by the way we feel. Just because He feels distant one day doesn’t mean He has left our side. His truth remains–“I will never leave you nor forsake you”–no matter how we are feeling.

Our journey with the Lord is always going to come back to the same place–our faith. It’s worth far greater than gold. Jesus said, “This is the work of God—that you believe in the One He has sent” (John 6:29). Faith. Trust. Belief. That’s what it’s all about. Choose to believe based on the truth of God’s Word, always, no matter what, and always hold your feelings up to the truth.
