“You Alone Are God”

Jesus Calling April 16“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

-Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT

Every morning I read from Sarah Young’s devotional called Jesus Calling. Every morning, God uses it to speak to my heart and increase my faith and fellowship with Jesus. Today, I had to share my experience with Him this morning.

I have been struggling recently in certain areas of my walk with God. I have been praying, listening, and waiting for Him. I felt I had been obedient in my listening and in my trust of His ways. But then, I fell into a deep trap of pride and arrogance. I began to believe that I somehow knew how He was going to work it all out.

This morning, He reminded me through this devotional that He alone is God. He is the Only One who knows the direction of my life, and the Only One who determines how it will work out. His ways are greater than mine, His thoughts greater, and I could not even begin to imagine what He will do. Everything is for the glory of His Son Jesus, and I am only His unworthy servant. And His love for me is deep and wide, long and high.

I wrote my prayer of repentance in my journal:

Father, I confess my arrogance and my pride, thinking I can understand your ways or know how you will work or what you will do. Father, I know nothing. You alone are God, and I am your unworthy servant. I am but a breath; a vapor, compared to you. I repent, O Lord, in dust and ashes, and I thank you for opening my eyes to the truth of my arrogance. You alone are God.

Just then, a rush of joy and peace swept over me, and Jesus reminded me of His words:

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” -John 8:36 NIV
