Receiving Strength When God Invites Us to Join Him

Lord, when You showed Your favor,
You made me stand like a strong mountain.

Psalm 30:7

God shows us favor when He invites us to join Him in His work. Oftentimes, we need strength to take that step of faith. He doesn’t usually give us all the steps that lie ahead, but asks us to walk with Him by faith. Abraham had this same journey with the Lord and gives us an example of strength in the presence of God’s favor. “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a place he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).

We can learn a lot from Abraham’s faith. As the first Patriarch of God’s Chosen People, the people whom the Savior of the World would descend from, he had the favor of God upon Him. God called him to leave his land and his relatives to journey to a new land that God would show Him. God made promises to him that He kept. And Abraham remains to this day an example of faith in the journey of walking with God. In fact, this same Scripture is quoted three different times in the New Testament: “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness” (Rom. 4:3; Gal. 3:6; James 2:23). James adds, “and he was called God’s friend.”

When God invites us to join Him, He will make us stand like a strong mountain. But we have to let go and take that initial step of faith and trust God to receive that strength. What is God calling you to join Him on today? If you feel fear or uncertainty, pray that God helps you press forward and take that step of faith toward Him. Remarkably, just like Abraham, God will credit your faith as righteousness too! And what better title could we receive than being called “God’s friend?”
