But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.

“O God my rock,” I cry,
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I wander around in grief,
    oppressed by my enemies?”
Their taunts break my bones.
They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”

Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!

Psalm 42:8-11 NLT

We all go through times of depression. We all go through times where we doubt and get discouraged. But God knows our hearts. He knows how we feel each and every moment. And we can turn to Him for help.

The Psalms are so uplifting because nearly every human emotion is captured in these writings. In Psalm 42, the writer felt depression and doubt. But He cried out to God for help. He confessed his true feelings, then turned to God and put His hope in Him.

Are you feeling depressed today? Confess your feelings to God. Ask for His help to lift you up to see the light of truth in the midst of your downcast thoughts. Then make the choice, no matter what you are feeling, to put your hope in Him. He never changes. He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever. Our circumstances change frequently. What lifts us up is putting our faith and trust in the One who never changes. He is constantly pouring His unfailing love upon you. Receive His love today in the midst of your depression, and be lifted up in the light of our Savior Jesus Christ.
