Why We Can Be Patient

You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.

James 5:8

Waiting on God can be painful and can test our faith in many ways. But if we can understand why we must wait for God, then we can be filled with the peace that comes from knowing for certain God will do what He says He will do.

An infinite amount of circumstances may be tied into one single thing we are waiting for God to act upon. For one, God’s ultimate and supreme glory is tied into the timing of His actions. He will not act a moment sooner than to illustrate His perfect glory and power over Satan. We will not be disappointed in this either, and therefore, we can come to a place where we wouldn’t want God’s action to be done a moment sooner than is a perfect manifestation of His power over the impossible.

From heaven’s perspective, God’s action has already been completed. Here on earth, we are simply waiting for the time to pass for His act to be manifested on earth as it is in heaven. “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). Because His promise has already been completed in heaven, we can be patient and strengthen our hearts. We can know that we know God has already acted. Now the time here must pass until we can see it manifested on earth. What power in the truth! What strength we can have in our hearts! How boldly we can walk when Satan places doubts in our hearts whether God will answer our prayers! They have already been answered with a resounding “YES!” in heaven.

Wake up every morning, thanking God for this new day–a day closer to seeing His completed work–His answered prayer–being shown here on earth.
