The Cure for Anxiety

January 2, 2013 | Tags: , ,

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7 NASB

I know I tend to worry about things I cannot control. My mind can go in a million directions if I let it. But I’ve also realized one very important thing–it NEVER helps me to worry. It only takes me away from God.

As I walk with Jesus, I learn more and more about Him and His ways. I have learned His perfect love, no matter what is going on. I have learned to trust Him, even if I cannot understand what He’s doing. I have learned the freedom of letting go of the things I cannot control. I have walked in very difficult and painful circumstances with a sense of peace I cannot explain.

Jesus wants me to walk this way every moment of my life. How do I do this? By keeping my mind fixed on Him. By praying whenever I feel a sense of anxiety. By memorizing this verse in Philippians and saying it over and over again until the anxiety disappears. He is faithful to always help me when I ask Him.

Write this verse on an index card and carry it around with you. Look at it every time you feel anxious. Pray and remember Jesus’ presence with you when you start to worry. Don’t allow the worry to settle into your mind, instead, let Jesus defeat it for you. It is a habit all of us need to get into. Anxious thoughts will come our way. But we can choose to look at Jesus and have peace instead of worry.
