How the Lord Defeats Our Enemies

I will not drive them out ahead of you in a single year; otherwise, the land would become desolate, and wild animals would multiply against you. I will drive them out little by little ahead of you until you have become numerous and take possession of the land.

Exodus 23:29-30

Each of us face spiritual enemies. The Bible says, “For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens (Eph. 6:12). But God is our stronghold. He fights for us so that we can take possession of our promised land. He fights for us to show His mighty strength and power over our enemies.

The Lord does not defeat our enemies all at once. He defeats them little by little. He does this to show His work in our lives is about a process, not just an end. Through battles, we continue to seek His face for guidance and wisdom. In seeking Him, we grow in our relationship with Him. We grow to know Him better through the ways He uses to defeat our enemies before us.

We can take great hope in this truth. God is driving out our enemies before us. Every single day. His grace and His strength surround us as He fights for us. He is our Great God.

There is none like the God of Jeshurun,
who rides the heavens to your aid,
the clouds in His majesty.
The God of old is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
He drives out the enemy before you
and commands, “Destroy!”

Deut. 33:26-27
