God’s Presence Makes All the Difference (Weekend Devotional)

“How will it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight unless You go with us? I and Your people will be distinguished by this from all the other people on the face of the earth.”

Exodus 33:16

In Scripture, God shows us how He distinguishes His people–His presence with them. When God’s presence is with a person, he or she prospers in the Lord’s purpose for his or her life. When God told Moses he was going to deliver His people from the oppression of the Egyptians, Moses said, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt? [God] answered, “I will certainly be with you” (Exo. 3:11-12). When Joseph was thrown in prison for doing the correct thing by running from Potiphar’s wife, “the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor in the the eyes of the prison warden” (Gen. 39:21). When Peter was close to the Lord, he was fearless (Matt. 26:50-51). When he denied the Lord, he was a coward (Matt. 27:74-75). The presence of the Lord makes all the difference in our lives.

Jesus said it this way: “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be My disciples (John 15:5-8).

No matter what we go through, Jesus shows us His presence is what we truly need to prosper. Circumstances change. Relationships change. People come and go out of our lives. But Jesus will always be with us. We can rejoice in the Lord every day because Jesus’ presence is with us. It is what makes all the difference.
