Do Not Rely On Your Own Understanding

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Life can be overwhelmingly difficult and frustrating sometimes. The same sorrows and turmoil abound even through years of prayer for deliverance only the Lord can bring. How do we handle it when we seem to be stuck in the same place, even though we know it’s God’s will for deliverance from the situation? The answer comes through faith and perseverance. We do not give up and walk away from God. We are not supposed to rely on our own understanding. God promises that if we trust Him, we will have peace and He will guide us on the right paths.

Think about it this way–what’s the alternative? We can all agree that life includes suffering. So do we suffer alone, walking away from God, or do we allow God to work in and through our suffering for His glory and purposes? Walking away from God will not take us away from the suffering. But if we choose to trust God and follow Him even in suffering, we will be blessed because of it. He will guide us on the right paths according to His perfect understanding and knowledge of all situations.

Follow His lead today. Keep praying, keep reading your Bible, keep persevering. Jesus faced tremendous struggles and He did the same thing. He trusted the Father and let Him take the lead in His life. Let Jesus take the lead in your life too.
