The Wisdom from Heaven

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

James 3:17 NIV1984

I love this verse because it states very clearly what true wisdom is. It is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, impartial, and sincere. Anything less than this is not wisdom from heaven. In fact, it is “wisdom” from hell. “But if you have bitter envy or selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic” (James 3:14-15).

We either speak wisdom or we listen to wisdom. Everything we speak and everything we hear should be filtered through the lens of this verse in James. We should be very careful about the advice we receive. If it fails to pass the test of James 3:17, we need to toss it out immediately. It will only lead us down the path of destruction.

God is the God of all truth. He knows all things. He knows the intention of every heart and mind. We can trust His wisdom is perfect. When facing a challenge, the first place we need to turn is to God through His Word and through prayer. He will cut through the unspiritual and lead us to the pure wisdom of Him, which will set us free. Even the most godly brothers and sisters in Christ can give us partial wisdom, even with the best intentions. Take whatever you receive and go straight to God. Check it with Him before proceeding. He will always steer you in the right direction.
