The Father Draws Us Near (Weekend Devotional)

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.

John 6:44

It is a remarkable truth–we can do nothing with God unless He wills it. For this is our true nature:

The fool says in his heart, “God does not exist.”
They are corrupt; they do vile deeds.
There is no one who does good.
The Lord looks down from heaven on the human race
to see if there is one who is wise,
one who seeks God.
All have turned away;
all alike have become corrupt.
There is no one who does good,
not even one. -Psalm 14:1-3

But Oh, how great the love of God that He places His Spirit in us to move us to love Him and follow Him! I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.(Ezekiel 36:25-27).

Praise the Lord today that He brings you to the Word of God. Praise Him today that He brings you to prayer. Praise Him today that you sing worship songs to Him. We can do none of these things without God’s Spirit moving within us!

Oh, it is indeed a remarkable thing that the Lord of all Creation, Perfect in all His ways, comes down from heaven to draw us to Himself when we are so unworthy. Glory be to God in the highest!
