Correction Keeps Us Safe

If you stop listening to correction, my son,
you will stray from the words of knowledge.

Proverbs 19:27

In a certain family there were two children. One child refused to be corrected, thus faced suffering and strife again and again. The other child listened to correction and received it, therefore, had peace and stability, even in difficult times. Which child do you tend to be?

Jesus put it this way: Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great! (Matt. 7:24-27).

Correction from God saves us. When we listen to God’s words and act upon them, we will grow, have peace, and stand firm during the challenges of life. When we harden our hearts, refuse to accept help, and continue to go about our stubborn ways, we will suffer.

Take the route of wisdom today. Humble yourself before the Lord, repent of your sin of disobedience, and receive the love and peace of God. Every time we do this, we will be blessed and walk firmly with Jesus, no matter what comes our way.
