With Wisdom We Can Spot Temptation

I have treasured Your Word in my heart so that I may not sin against You. Your decrees are my delight and my counselors.

Psalm 119:11, 24

Temptation can strike when we least expect it. It can creep and crawl ever so slightly before we realize it was ever there. Satan knows exactly where our weaknesses are. He knows when to attack and how to temp us into sin. We must constantly be on guard and never let our guard down.

We must not allow ourselves to be naive, thinking thoughts like, “Oh, that could never happen to me.” We have no ability to fight the enemy on our own. He is way more cunning and has thousands of years of experience with human temptation. The only way to fight is with the truth of God’s Word. When we know the Word of God and spend time studying it and meditating on it daily, we are in a position to see the temptation coming and to fight back before the temptation leads to actual sin.

As we grow spiritually, we will come to a place where we no longer want to dabble with temptation. As soon as we see it coming, we run to God as fast as we can. That is where we all need to be, my friend. We need to see that nothing good ever comes from disobeying God’s Word. Conversely, the Bible promises us that obedience to God will always lead to peace and freedom.

Take an inventory of your areas of weakness today. Are you allowing the temptation to entice you, or are you crying out for God to rescue you? God’s Word says, “My enemies will retreat on the day when I call. This I know: God is for me” (Psalm 56:9). When we cry to God for help, He promises He will rescue us. Each and every time. But be wise and know what God’s will is beforehand by spending time in the Bible and trusting God’s truths.
