When Our Children Are Under Attack

I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children.

Isaiah 49:25

One of the most difficult things we face as parents is trusting God to care for our children. As the ones God has chosen to raise them, we have the responsibility to bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Parenting, in all its challenges, should lead us to our knees. And God promises to equip us for whatever comes through His Son Jesus. Remember God will never place us in a position in anything in life without giving us wisdom and instruction on how to walk through it with Him.

We will face situations where our children are under attack. What is the godly response to this? First, we must not allow ourselves to become anxious. The Bible says, “Be anxious for nothing” (Phil. 4:6 NASB). Anxiety and worry will only block our communication with the Lord. Second, we must pray. We must approach God with humility and boldness, knowing He promises to give us wisdom and strength to handle the situation. Third, and most difficult, we must surrender to His will in the lives of our children. Think about it this way. If we care so deeply and lovingly for our children, and we are sinners saved by grace, how much more does their perfect Father in heaven care for them?

Remember God is in control of all the circumstances of our children’s lives. Our children belong to Him. When they are facing attacks in their own lives, the best thing we can do is let them see the strength and hope we have in Christ. More than rescuing them from the difficult situation, let us pray God’s will be done in their lives.  May Jesus be glorified in them as their Rock of Refuge always. Let them know Jesus intimately and personally through it all. That is truly the best gift we could ever give them.
