Remember Our Battles are Spiritual

Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Even as believers, I think we can sometimes forgot our battles originate in the spiritual realm. Are you having conflicts with your spouse, your children, at work, with other believers, or within yourself? They most likely have a spiritual component attached to them. Remembering this will help to give you peace and explanation, all the while equipping you to fight the fight of faith instead of fighting the way the world fights. “For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens (Ephesians 6:12).

I’m convinced, as I’ve seen in my own life and my own heavy spiritual battles, prayer on our knees is the most effective way to fight. Don’t allow yourself to get caught into the despair of the battle or believe the lies in your head. The enemy loves when you try to fight him in your own strength without God, because he knows he will win every time. But when you get on your knees, in humble submission and reverence to God, believing by faith God is powerful to deliver you, the victory will come and Jesus will be glorified.

Remember you are not alone. Every day, all our brothers and sisters in the Lord are fighting the same spiritual battles, manifesting themselves in thousands of different ways. God sees each one of His children and knows intimately the battles we are facing today. And He promises His presence will calm you each time you submit to Him and resist the Devil. “Therefore, submit to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:7-8).

Don’t you give up, Beloved. Satan is not in control. God is in control. You have the power through the Holy Spirit to fight the fight of faith.

Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you. However, don’t rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:19-20
