Get Into the Habit of Doing

November 5, 2012 | Tags: ,

But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:22-25

I’m convinced we can get into the good habit of obeying God and doing what He says. I think we can also get into the bad habit of disobeying God and ignoring what He says. There is one major component that separates these two habits–Do we really believe Jesus is the Lord of our lives? If we truly believe He is, then obeying Him becomes easier. If we do not believe He is the Lord of our life and we still think we are the lord, then we will easily disobey every time.

We can deceivingly make ourselves feel good by listening and agreeing with God in our minds. But that does nothing to move us forward if we don’t act upon it. James made it very clear in this portion of Scripture. We are deceived if we listen but do not act. On the other hand, we are blessed if we listen and act. Every time we listen to God and act, we move forward with Him spiritually. Every time we act, we become more like Jesus.

Where are you right now regarding this? Are you in the habit of doing or disobeying? You’ll know right away. God loves you. If you are in the habit of disobeying, God can turn that around today. Confess your disobedience and ask Him for help. The True Lord of your life loves you. Follow Him and be blessed.
