The Vast Strength of God

Be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.

Ephesians 6:10

Every day when you and I wake up, we face another battle. These battles manifest themselves in various forms, but their source is similar–the enemy. His entire purpose is to get us to take our eyes off God and to focus on him, so that we can be distracted from God’s purpose for our day. The Bible describes him as “a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour” (1 Peter 5:8). He is loud and scary. We can easily get caught by staring at him.

But the enemy is a defeated foe. When Jesus went to the cross and took the sins of all humanity, the enemy was defeated. He has no power over those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ. He can only tell lies, rant and rave, and get us to believe and act upon things that are not true. His favorite tactic–doubt. “Did God really say…” (Genesis 3:1).

So how do we fight back? By knowing and proclaiming the truth. By walking in faith based upon God’s promises in the Bible. By spending daily time with the Lord in prayer and in Bible study. The enemy has a much tougher time getting to someone who knows the truth and walks in it. Remember, the vast strength of God lies in His Word, in prayer, and in faith and trust. When Satan begins to attack with fear and doubt, don’t waste your time entertaining him. Instead, get on your knees and fight back with faith, trust, and prayer.
