Belief Brings Joy

How joyful are those whose lawless acts are forgiven and whose sins are covered! How joyful is the man the Lord will never charge with sin!

Romans 4:7-8

Romans 4 is a powerful chapter in Scripture that discusses faith and belief. I’ve read it several times, but something stood out to me recently that I hadn’t seen before. Verses 7-8 basically say that belief in God’s promises brings joy to our lives. The HCSB translates the Greek word makarios as “joyful,” which I like a lot. Other translations use the word “blessed.” Makarios means “supremely blest; fortunate; well off; happier.”

In a nutshell, when we believe and act upon God’s promises in Scripture, we are joyful. Those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior have forgiveness of all our sins–past, present, and future. When we walk with that belief in our hearts and minds always, we are filled with joy.

That means any anxiety related to God’s promises of forgiveness will bring pain to us. Did God really forgive me for what I did? Did Jesus really take all my sins on the cross or did He miss this one? All these thoughts are unbelief. They will rob us of our joy each and every time. They will rob us of our peace. They are simply lies.

Each of us would do well to understand what it means to be forgiven by the blood of Christ. If you have received His forgiveness, then walk in it today! Fill your heart and mind with the joy of having all your sins covered by Jesus’ work on the cross! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come” (2 Cor. 5:17).

If you have yet to receive the gift of salvation, there is no better time then the present. “Look, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2). Please visit our Knowing Christ page to learn how you can receive forgiveness for your sins.

Believe, and feel the joy found only in Christ Jesus!
