Remarkably and Wonderfully Made

I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.
Psalm 139:14

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be set free from having the world’s narrow definition of beauty shape my own self-image. Will I look in the mirror and just praise God because I have been “remarkably and wonderfully made?” Or will I continue to have that voice in the back of my head, pointing out the improvements I need to make on my physical self. This is an area of constant prayer for me. I need to continue to remain in Jesus’ presence when I am getting dressed in the morning or when I face any temptation during the day to compare myself to others. To Jesus, I am beautiful exactly the way He made me, exactly the way I look right now. I think about this when I look at my own children. I delight in them, even when they have skinned knees, messy hair, or dirty shirts. I look at them and think how beautiful and precious they are to me. I know Jesus thinks the same thing when He looks at us.

I need to confess my sin of thinking negatively about the way I look and instead thank Jesus for the work He’s done in making me. Will you join me in making this a daily habit too? Copy Psalms 139:14 on a sticky note and put it on your mirror in the bathroom where you get dressed. This will help remind you of His presence. Then praise Him for His awesome work in making you. You are His special child. He loves and delights in you.
