Peace and Courage Through Suffering

I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.

John 16:3

Suffering is a part of life. It is a part of life because we live in a fallen world. We see suffering in a kaleidoscope of different ways. We saw it in a grand scale on 9/11. We see it in everything from the daily struggles to the bigger troubles. But just because we suffer, it doesn’t mean we have to feel defeated by it.

Jesus promised peace in Him. He told us to be courageous. He has conquered the world. What does that mean? It means that if you have a relationship with God through His Son Jesus, you are promised His presence through all suffering you face. You are promised courage and strength when you have nothing left to give. You are promised His overflowing grace to help you in your time of need. You are promised a Wonderful Counselor who will fill you with wisdom to make tough choices. You are promised an Almighty God who will never leave you or forsake you.

Have you entered into that kind of relationship with God? The Father loves you. You are His precious child. He has offered the free gift of salvation through the death of His Son Jesus to all who will receive it by faith.

We all will face suffering in this world. The question is–will we face it and stumble around feeling defeated, or will we face it with Jesus carrying us through every moment of it? We can face it, knowing the One who encourages us and provides for us through every step. We can face it, knowing not a moment of it occurs in vain because of Jesus’ promise to work all things together for the good of those who love God.
