Obedience Doesn’t Always Mean Convenience

Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:7

When God calls us to join Him in an activity He has planned for us, it’s rarely convenient. We have to adjust our lives to go where He is working. For an entire year, God had me take a break from teaching. I waited patiently that year for a new opportunity to come. When it did, it involved me driving to the other side of town once a week to teach. It was certainly not convenient or easy. But I knew it was where God wanted me to be. So I trusted He would take care of the cost of gas and the time away from my family. And I obeyed despite the apparent inconvenience of it. I am so grateful I did for I’ve learned so much from this amazing group of women I’ve had the privilege to study the Bible with. And I’ve grown closer to Jesus in new and fresh ways too.

Was it convenient or easy for Jesus to leave the comfort and security of heaven and come to earth as a pauper? Was it convenient or easy to die on the cross for the sins of all humanity? If He is our model, and He did all of this for us, can’t we give ourselves back in return? If God is calling you to join Him somewhere, and it’s not convenient or easy, rejoice in what’s waiting on the other side. Obedience to His direction will bless your life.
